Overview
Etam Kawa is a gamified learning experience inside BSPACE, BUMA’s employee workspace app. It turns training on safety, regulations, and company culture into missions that employees complete for points and rewards, with supervisors validating their work and progress tracked on a live scoreboard.
Problem
Training a large, distributed mining workforce on safety and culture is hard to make stick. Briefings and paperwork rarely engage frontline workers, and leaders have little visibility into who is actually learning and applying it. The goal was to make required learning something employees want to do, and give supervisors a clear view of participation, understanding, and safety behaviour.
Key Features
- Bulletin: company news and updates (“Kabar Etam Kawa”) in one feed.
- Missions: gamified learning chapters with tasks, quizzes, points, rewards, and duration, sorted into In Progress, Assigned, and Past.
- Task flow: step-by-step tasks with multiple-choice questions and photo evidence, a progress bar, and per-task points.
- Validation: supervisors review and rate submissions, mark answers, and give feedback.
- Growth analytics: mission and accumulated scores plus a Safe Score, with rankings and filters by team, chapter, and category.
- Profile / My Card: the employee’s personal space and points.
Approach
- Turn training into missions, not modules: each topic (Safety & Regulations, company culture) becomes a mission with tasks, points, rewards, and a set duration, so learning feels like progress instead of a chore.
- Check the learning, don’t just count clicks: supervisors review submissions, rate answers, and leave feedback, and tasks can require real evidence like a photo from the field.
- Tie scores to behaviour, and make it visible: a Growth dashboard shows mission scores, accumulated scores, and a Safe Score across red, yellow, and green zones, ranked by individual, team, and chapter.
